The Born in Wales study has launched a new survey for parents who have a child between 18 months to 2-and-a-half-years old. The new questionnaire builds on the success of the first Born in Wales survey for expectant and new mums and dads.
Online Questionnaire
Those with children between 18 months and 2- and-a-half- years old will be asked to fill out an online questionnaire. The survey includes questions about parents and their children’s health and well-being. Other questions focus on ethnicity, employment status, and services in their local area. The questionnaire should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.
Linking data for future impact
With consent from the participants, their answers from the survey will be anonymously linked to health and education records – allowing our research team to explore how families’ health and well-being impact future health and education outcomes.
Hope Jones, Early Years Researcher at the Centre for Population Health, said:
“Our new survey has been designed for parents with 18 months to 2-and-a-half-year-old children. The survey asks parents about their health and well-being, physical activity, housing and work situation, support services, and family.
I would encourage parents to complete the survey and share their thoughts and views with us so that we can deepen our understanding of the current influences on family health and well-being.”
Professor Sinead Brophy, Director of the Centre for Population Health, added:
“We are delighted to launch our new survey, which broadens our research to children between 18 months and two and a half years old.
The first years of a child’s life are fundamental in building the foundation for growth, health, well-being, social skills, and education attainment. This new survey will further add to our understanding of what can influence a child’s changing growth and development.
The results from this survey will build on our growing evidence base that will inform policy and practice to help improve the lives of families growing up in Wales with long-term effects on future outcomes.”
Born in Wales is a birth cohort study funded by the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research (NCPHWR). This study will provide evidence to understand better and identify the most prominent issues facing families growing up in Wales. In addition, the study’s evidence will inform policies that can support changes to improve the health and well-being of families, particularly those considered more vulnerable.
